Poll: Biological Men Shouldn’t Compete In Women’s Sports

By Kate Striker Sep16,2023 #Sports

According to a recent Gallup poll, nearly 70 percent of Americans do not support the idea of biological men participating in women’s sports.

Survey Says…..”No”

The survey revealed an increase in this sentiment from 62 percent in 2021 to 69 percent in 2023, with most Americans believing athletes should compete on teams corresponding to their real gender. It also indicated people who know a transgender person tend to be more accepting of pro-transgender policies.

Conversely, in 2021, 34 percent of Americans favored transgender athletes competing on teams that match their gender identity, but by 2023, this support had dropped to 26 percent.

Riley Gaines, director of the Riley Gaines Center at the Leadership Institute, said gender ideology issues may seem polarizing in politics and media but there is broad consensus among the general public.

She said the pendulum has swung too far, and people increasingly recognize the potential consequences of maintaining the status quo. Gaines highlighted injury risks, privacy concerns, and missed opportunities for girls in sports if things continue.

The Gallup poll found that 55 percent consider changing one’s gender morally wrong, while 43 percent deem it ethically acceptable.

These percentages have shifted slightly since 2021.

Democrats, despite their overall support for LGBTQ+ rights and the morality of gender change, are divided on the issue of transgender athletes participating based on gender identity.

In 2023, 40 percent knew a transgender person, up from 31 percent in 2021. However, support for transgender athletes playing on teams that match their current gender identity dropped from 40 percent in 2021 to 30 percent in 2023 among those who knew a transgender person.

In 2021, 86 percent of Republicans believed transgender athletes should compete based on birth gender, which increased to 93 percent in 2023.

Among independents, support for this stance rose from 63 to 67 percent, while nearly half of Democrats surveyed (up from 41 percent in 2021) thought athletes should compete based on their biological sex.

The U.S. House of Representatives, led by Republicans, passed a national ban on biological men participating in women’s sports. Still, President Joe Biden vowed to veto it if it passes the Senate, and various states have enacted similar bans.

The White House faced questions regarding its stance on transgender athletes, with the administration emphasizing the importance of schools’ flexibility in establishing their athletics policies while preventing discrimination against transgender students.

The Department of Education released regulations stating schools receiving federal funding cannot impose a blanket ban on transgender students from playing on teams aligned with their gender identity, as this would be a Title IX violation.

  1. Of course they shouldn’t be allowed to compete, they are physically stronger than biologically born females. That’s a no brainer for the average person.
