Missing Teen Remarkably Found 8 Years Later

Now-25-year-old Rudy Farias is recovering in the hospital following his 8-year disappearance in northwest Houston, according to authorities.

Houston authorities announced on Sunday, July 2, 2023, that missing Texas high school student, Rudy Farias was found eight years after his disappearance.

Someone called 911 after finding him unresponsive outside a church, with cuts and bruises, Farias’ mother told CNN affiliate KTRK. She believes he was badly abused and beaten.

Rudy Farias went missing on March 6, 2015, at the age of 17 when he had taken his two dogs for a walk. Within the next 24 hours, while Rudy’s dogs returned, he was nowhere to be found.

The young man is now in the hospital after good Samaritans called 911 when they spotted him outside a church unresponsive, his mother said, according to reports.  

He had cuts and bruises, and blood in his hair, she told KTRK.

He will only speak a few words at a time before going into a fetal position, Farias’ mother said. She expects it will be a long healing journey, she told KTRK.

His mother additionally confirmed to KPRC that her son was in “bad shape” mentally and physically, but she was grateful to have him back.

“After 8 long years, Rudy has been located safe,” said a Sunday tweet from the Texas Center for the Missing.

“Please continue to keep his family in your prayers as Rudy recovers in the hospital.”

According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, nearly 360,000 reports of missing children were made to the FBI in 2022 – a figure that may include duplicates.
