A man in Illinois was in his yard using his leaf blower, and was approached by his neighbor, who shot and killed him.
Man Shot and Killed by Neighbor
An Illinois man using a leaf blower on his property was allegedly shot and killed by his neighbor this month, becoming the latest in a string of shooting victims purportedly targeted while doing everyday tasks.
William Martys, 59, was reportedly using his leaf blower in his yard in Antioch when his neighbor, 79-year-old Ettore Lacchei, got into an argument with him then shot him in the head.
During the altercation, Mr Lacchei allegedly shot his neighbour in the head.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the home in Antioch, a village located 60 miles north of Chicago, at around 7.30pm after reports of “an unresponsive man on a driveway.”
Emergency services performed CPR on Mr Martys and he was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, he tragically died just moments later.
Lacchei was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Argument Led to Unsuspecting Killing
Martys was using a leaf blower in his own yard when he was approached by Lacchei and the pair began arguing.
Lacchei allegedly shot Martys in the head around 7:35 p.m., the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
When deputies arrived at the home on North Black Oak Avenue, they found Martys bleeding and unresponsive in the driveway. He was rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators later learned that Lacchei had “various perceived grievances with Martys” prior to the deadly shooting and called the murder “senseless.”
A neighbor of both men confirmed that history to Chicago ABC station WLS, alleging that Lacchei had pulled a gun on Martys at least once before.
Lacchei Is Behind Bars
Investigators learned that Lacchei had “various perceived grievances with Martys” prior to the deadly shooting and called the murder “senseless.”
Mr Lacchei has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after a “comprehensive” two-week investigation.
A search warrant was obtained on Tuesday and he was arrested without incident at his home.
However, while investigator’s were at the suspect’s home “detectives also discovered Lacchei had sold his home and had plans to leave the country. “
“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of William Martys, who was senselessly murdered,” said Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg.
“The members of the sheriff’s office are relentless when it comes to seeking justice for victims. The members of our Criminal Investigations Division have been working around the clock to bring Mr. Martys’ murderer to justice, and I am happy Mr. Martys’ family can begin the closure and healing process.”
