President Joe Biden, 80, accidentally tripped and fell on stage at the Air Force graduation because of black sandbags on the stage floor.
Biden is “OK” After Fall
President Joe Biden tripped and fell after handing out the last diploma at a graduation ceremony at the U.S. Air Force Academy on Thursday, but got up quickly and walked back to his seat.
Biden also delivered the academy’s commencement speech, which was held at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs. During his remarks, he praised the graduates for choosing “service over self.”
“Graduates, you made a noble choice to lead a life of service,” Biden said. “Now you also shoulder a great privilege and a mighty responsibility. Leadership, yeah leadership.”
He continued, “In the years ahead, your airmen and guardians are going to look to you for guidance and inspiration because the world is going to get more confusing. They’ll put their trust in you. You, in turn, must strive to always be worthy of their confidence.”
After Biden shook the hands of more than 900 graduates, the president turned to head back to his seat and started to motion as if he was going to jog.
He then appeared to trip and fell down on the stage.
White House Communications Director Ben LaBolt tweeted that Biden is “fine” and said a sandbag on the stage was the cause of the fall.
He has previously taken a fall when greeting a crowd while on a bike in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, in June 2022, along with stumbling up the stairs to Air Force One on a few occasions. He has been fine after all the incidents.
Biden announced in April that he will be seeking a second term in 2024 as president. He is the oldest U.S. president in history.
