Bakery Had Beary Delicious Cupcakes

Bakery workers who were loading up a shipment in a van were startled when a bear wandered into their garage and began helping itself to cupcakes before workers were able to scare it off, but not before they got a good scare themselves.

“All the sudden we hear (a worker) screaming bloody murder and then yelling ‘there’s a bear in the garage!’’ Taste by Spellbound owner Miriam Stephens writes in an Instagram post.

Stephens says a worker, Maureen Williams, ran into the bakery and slammed the door.

Stephens says she then called 911.

Williams tried shouting at the bear to see if it would leave, but it retreated as fast as it returned. Workers also walked around the side of the bakery hoping to scare off the bear, but quickly ran back inside when they saw the animal.

“Lisa then had a brilliant idea to go out the front and get in her car to drive around back and she started beeping her horn like a crazy person. She finally got him out and Maureen ran to the garage to close it as fast as she could,” Stephens said in a post on social media.

The video shows the bear dragging a box from the garage and consuming its contents. Stephens said the bear ate 60 cupcakes and also some coconut cakes.

“It was a little shocking,” Williams tells WTNH Channel 8. “The adrenaline was pumping after that one, for sure.”

“We’re safe but the cupcakes aren’t,” Stephens said in a post.

No one was hurt in the incident.

People are warned not to feed the bears or leave out anything they may want, like bird feeders and improperly stored trash.
