Last night, after 2 years of being on hiatus, the White House brought back the Correspondents’ dinner.

Welcome Back

The White House correspondents’ dinner is back.

The black-tie event returned this past Saturday, with Trevor Noah as the host. Attendees, according to Biden’s remarks during the dinner, were that everyone was fully vaccinated and fully boosted in order to attend the dinner, even Fox News Reporters.

History

This special event, is held by the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA), formed in 1914, and is made up of credentialed journalists who cover the administration and also have access to the White House briefing room, and the president.

The first dinner was recorded in 1920, then in 1924 where President Coolidge was the first sitting leader to attend. President Roosevelt featured a performance by Bob Hope in 1944, and Ed Sullivan was invited to perform in 1946. Other performers included Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, and Peter Sellars.

Biden’s Speech

In Biden’s introductory speech, he takes a few blows at Trump’s presidency, calling it a “plague”, and acknowledged his low approval rating for the presidency.

Some Americans are confused because Biden believes we are still “getting through the pandemic.”
