Ex-House speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Friday she is seeking another term in Congress to help Democrats win back the majority in the House of Representatives.
Pelosi Is Back
The longtime San Francisco congresswoman posted on X, formerly known as Twitter that she will seek another term in the House even though she no longer is a member of House leadership.
“Now more than ever our City needs us to advance San Francisco values and further our recovery,” she said. “Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for ALL. That is why I am running for reelection — and respectfully ask for your vote.”
Pelosi, who has represented San Francisco since 1987, served as House speaker twice. Her first tenure as House speaker was from 2007 to 2011, during which she made history by becoming the first female speaker.
Pelosi led the House of Representatives again from 2019 to the beginning of this year.
Last November, Pelosi announced that she was stepping down as the leader of the Democratic party after Republicans regained control of the House of Representatives with a narrow 222-212 majority with one vacancy.
The Babylon Bee, known for its humor with politicians and trends, pointed out the drama around Pelosi and insider trading.
If re-elected, Ms Pelosi would be 84 when she wins in the safely Democratic district. Her decision to seek re-election comes after Democratic Sen Dianne Feinstein has faced questions about her declining memory and was out of the US Senate for weeks to recover from shingles.
