Teen Sentenced After Burning, Burying Baby Three Times After Abortion

A teen had an illegal abortion in Nebraska when she was 17. She burned and buried the baby’s body several times to get rid of “evidence”.

Teen Gets Away With “Murder”

Celeste Burgess, 19, of Norfolk, entered a guilty plea in May to felony charges of removing, concealing, or abandoning a dead human body.

According to documents filed in district court, misdemeanor charges of false reporting and concealing a death were dismissed.

Prosecutors said the teen’s mom ordered abortion pills online and gave them to her daughter in April 2022.

Celeste Burgess was 17 and in the beginning of the third trimester of her pregnancy.

After inducing her miscarriage, Burgess and her mother, Jessica Burgess, 42, buried, exhumed, and reburied the fetal remains twice, attempting to burn them after the second exhumation.

They buried the aborted baby a third time with the help of a friend. The friend later pled no contest to charges of attempting to conceal the baby’s death.

“I was honestly scared at the time,” the teen said, according to the Norfolk Daily News.

Burgess discussed her miscarriage with a coworker, stating she had to “dig up and burn the baby’s body,”

Facebook messages between the mother and daughter showed discussions about purchasing the abortion medication online and instructions on when to take the two separate pills.

The Burgesses voluntarily showed McBride where they buried the remains.

The teen was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 24 months of probation. Court records show she is an inmate at Madison County Jail.

With good behavior, she may be released after 53 days.

Jessica Burgess, the teen’s mom, pleaded guilty to providing an abortion after 20 weeks, false reporting, and tampering with human skeletal remains.

She faces up to five years in prison, and is due to be sentenced in September.
