A Dutch sperm donor has been asked to stop his donations after mothers have sued him for unethical practices like incest.
Sperm Donor Donates A (Whole) Lot
Jonathan Jacob Meijer, a 41-year-old Dutch musician, has allegedly fathered approximately 550 children from different parts of the world.
Although large families can have their advantages, this situation raises concerns about the ethical and practical implications of fathering such a vast number of offspring.
Legal action is being taken against him due to the elevated risk of incest that he has generated as a result of his actions.
Jonathan Jacob Meijer, who allegedly fathered approximately 550 children from around the world, was reportedly barred from donating sperm in his home country of the Netherlands in 2017, according to The Times of London.
Here’s Why The Ban
The reason for the ban was because of his extensive donations to 11 Dutch clinics alone – which could lead to his offspring unknowingly mating with each other, resulting in a high risk of incest. Meijer has donated his sperm to a total of 13 clinics globally.
Jonathan Jacob Meijer has reportedly fathered 102 children in the Netherlands alone, where it is against the law for a man to impregnate more than 12 women or father more than 25 children.
Meijer, who currently resides in Kenya, is being sued by the Dutch DonorKind Foundation for his actions. The group spoke on the matter, saying, “We are taking action against this man because the government is doing nothing. He has a global reach via the internet and he does business with large, international sperm banks.”
A Dutch woman who gave birth to one of Meijer’s children in 2018 originally brought on the lawsuit. On the matter, the woman said, “When I think about the consequences this could have for my child I am sick to my stomach. Going to court is the only way to protect my child.”
Mark de Hek, who acts as DonorKind’s attorney, said, “We and some of the mothers have approached him. They have asked him to stop. He refused. This is why legal action is the only option to protect children.”
Meijer is Still Giving Donations
Despite being banned from sperm donations in the Netherlands, Jonathan Jacob Meijer is allegedly continuing to donate his sperm in Denmark and Ukraine.
The motives behind Jonathan Jacob Meijer’s alleged desire to father so many children remain unclear, especially given his unusual YouTube channel.
Some speculate that it could be due to narcissism, greed, or simply poor judgment.
