Little Puppy Stabbed in Head With Butter Knife

A 35-year-old city employee in Oklahoma was arrested this week for allegedly jumping a fence to stab his neighbor’s puppy in the head with a butter knife.

Drunk Man Stabs Puppy

Cody Ryan Davis was taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with one count of felony cruelty to animals, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

According to a press release from the Pauls Valley Police Department, officers responded at about 8 p.m. on Sunday to a 911 regarding “animals at large” — meaning not restrained or under the control of an owner.

Once there, an officer saw a man and a woman, both of whom he knew from previous encounters, sitting on the porch outside a home. The woman appeared “panicked” and the officer heard her yell, “Who stabs a dog with a butter knife?”

Police said they located Davis at his home and spoke to him.

They said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and told them the puppy was trying to fight his dogs through the fence. He also reportedly said he threw the butter knife at the dog.

Officers said they waited until Davis had sobered up before collecting a statement from him.

Here’s What Happened

Misty Harrison, the dog’s owner said her six-month-old puppy was following one of Harrison’s friends back from the store when the dog went up to a fence near Pecan and Coffee Avenue.

“It was crazy. I’ve never seen anything like it. Don’t want to see anything like it ever again,” said Harrison.

“This dog and the two in the backyard are going back and forth with each other with a fence between them,” said Pauls Valley Police Chief Derrick Jolley.

“He jumped the fence, stabbed her in the head with a butter knife, jumped his fence, and ran back inside his house,” said Harrison.

“This puppy is on the outside of a fence. No one can articulate to me a particular threat to the dogs or the owner,” said Chief Jolley.

Harrison’s grandmother Billie Davis watched in horror from her front porch. “I ran across the street and got the dog,” said Davis. “She was in the process of being traumatized.”

Harrison called police who rushed Stormy to the vet. Officers noted Stormy was “sweet in nature” even with a butter knife lodged 1.5 inches in her head.

Police said they took Davis into custody around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and booked him into the Garvin County Jail on a cruelty to animals charge. He is held on a $10,000 bond.

The city manager says Davis is suspended from his job with pay until this is resolved.

The Pup Is Ok

“We went to get her yesterday and they told us it’d be $410, which we didn’t have. So they said they have to keep her until we come up with the money,” said Harrison.

The Williamsburg Small Animal Hospital wrote in a Facebook post that the puppy named Stormy is “now happily home with her family.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to help her family pay the vet bill and get her pup back. She said the bill continues to grow every day.
