Costco’s Name Brand Products: Kirkland

Costco (COST) is well-known for selling third-party products for as much as 20% less than its competitors.

The warehouse giant uses its huge market share to strong-arm suppliers to put quality as well as value into Costco’s proprietary brand Kirkland Signature offerings. More than a quarter of Costco’s annual sales reportedly come from its Kirkland product lines, which first hit store shelves in 1995.

Many Kirkland Signature items get high marks for quality and value.

There’s a little bit of mystery when it comes to which manufacturers are responsible for making each individual Kirkland product.

Sometimes, the product turns out to have been made by Kirkland, but other times it’s a complete mystery who the original maker was.

Here’s Who Makes These 5 Kirkland Brand Products

Read below to find out who makes Kirkland’s cranberry juice, tuna, water, dog food, and coffee.

Kirkland Signature Cranberry Juice

Kirkland’s cranberry juice is produced by Ocean Spray.

It provides 100% of the daily allowance of vitamin C. It also has no added sugar, artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives, and is a cheaper option than the name-brand Ocean Spray.

Kirkland Signature Tuna

Costco works with Bumble Bee for canning its albacore solid white tuna.

Costco’s tuna is a lot more substantial than the tuna you might get from other generic brands. Not to mention, it’s still significantly cheaper.

Kirkland Signature Purified Bottled Water

If you like the Niagara Bottling company’s water then you’ll probably like Kirkland’s purified bottled water.

Water can have a lot of different flavors based on the bottler, but you’ll likely notice no difference between these two brands. That’s the benefit of having a good company bottle your water for you.

Kirkland Signature Pet Food

While Costco has stated that another company exclusively produces Kirkland’s pet food, they hadn’t publicly stated who that was for a while.

But people were able to figure it out in 2012.

The FDA had issued a recall for Diamond Naturals pet food and the Kirkland brand. Both companies were also named in a lawsuit claiming pets had received Salmonella food poisoning from eating the pet food.

Kirkland Signature Coffee

Starbucks roasts some of Kirkland’s coffee flavors. Not all of them though.

If you’re a fan of Starbucks, then you can save some money and try a few of the Kirkland flavors. They include Espresso Blend Dark Roast, House Blend Medium, and Decaf House Blend Medium.

Costco, opened by Jeffrey H. Brotman and James D. Sinegal in 1983, is a warehouse club that sells in bulk quantities at deeply discounted prices to club members, and it is one of the largest retailers in the world.

Costco is based in Issaquah, Washington.
