Woman’s Dead Body Found in Arby’s Freezer

Louisiana authorities are investigating a “suspicious death” after a female body was found in a walk-in freezer at an Arby’s restaurant.

Here’s What Happened

The New Iberia Police Department has confirmed that the deceased was an employee of the Arby’s located at 1120 E. Admiral Doyle Drive in New Iberia’s Lagniappe Village shopping center.

The woman’s body was discovered by another employee of the restaurant, and her cause of death has yet to be determined.

However, the initial investigation by the New Iberia Police Department does not indicate that foul play was involved, according to Police Department spokesperson Daesha Hughes.

Police Captain Leland Laseter told local station KADN that while the death is suspicious, foul play is not expected and it may have been an accident. “Nothing is set in stone yet,” Laseter said.

“A situation like this is unusual, so we’re taking extra precautions during the investigation.” Laseter added that authorities have completed their process at the crime scene and the incident does not seem to be a homicide but rather an accident.

The authorities are awaiting the results of a coroner’s autopsy to identify the victim and determine the cause of death. “We’re going to re-examine all the evidence tomorrow and they’re going to conduct an autopsy to give us the cause and manner of death. So there are a few more steps that we need to take before a (final) determination is made,” Laseter said.

Several employees of the restaurant have been interviewed, but no suspects have been named. The case remains under investigation as of Friday.

The New Iberia Police Department has assured the public that they are taking all necessary measures to ensure that the investigation is thorough and conclusive.
