Vice President Harris appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and had a little trouble explaining her job.
VP Harris Questioned on Her Role
During a cordial interview on the “Late Show,” host Stephen Colbert surprised Vice President Kamala Harris with a query concerning her responsibilities within the executive branch of the government.
On Wednesday, Harris commenced her conversation with Colbert by recognizing the resemblance between her Vice Presidential role and the portrayal of it on the HBO comedy series “Veep.”
Grinning, Harris remarked, “Some parts of it are surprisingly accurate,” and proceeded to recount an incident in which one of her staff members inadvertently caused her office to fill with smoke by igniting the fireplace without opening the flue.
“I know you love ‘Veep,’” Harris pointed with her finger at Colbert.
Following Harris’ disclosure that she had recently met “Veep” actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the CBS host continued discussing the parallels between Harris and the fictional Vice President.
Colbert asked, “One of the themes of the show is that Selina Meyer, the character portrayed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is exasperated by the vague responsibilities of the Vice Presidential role. Although it’s a significant constitutional office, it doesn’t precisely outline your daily duties. Have you experienced that, and what does your actual daily role entail?”
“Well, I have the great privilege of serving with Joe Biden, who is the President of the United States… and was vice president,” Harris responded.
Colbert Asks Again
After Colbert let Harris speak, he again asked:
“The question was what’s the job of the vice president,” Colbert grinned, causing Harris to burst out laughing. “And your answer is part of the job, I’m guessing.”
Take a look at how she explains her role as vice president, at 1:29 in the clip below:

People who waited outside for Harris to exit, chanted “lock her up.”
Harris has faced criticism from some who liken her Vice Presidential tenure to the popular HBO series due to her occasional gaffes and interview mishaps that frequently gain attention on social media.
During her appearance on “The Late Show,” Vice President Kamala Harris reiterated that President Biden plans to run for re-election in 2024 and that she will be his running mate.
