Rod Stewart has everyone’s attention when he announced that he is leaving the rock and roll genre behind after more than 60 years.
Singer Desires a Big Change in Music
After being a rock legend for more than six decades, Stewart announced he’s diving into other genres of music.
During the 78-year-old singer’s appearance on “BBC Breakfast,” Stewart said he’s not retiring from music, but has decided to “move on” to a different genre.
Responding to host Charlie Stayt noting that “rockstars are performing into incredible ages now,” Stewart declared: “I am actually stopping.”
After the rocker concludes his 2023 tour, Stewart says “I’m really looking forward to doing something else, especially singing with Jools’ band.”
Rod Stewart is Not Retiring
“I’m not retiring but I want to move on,” the 78-year-old musician told a news outlet. “I had great success with The Great American Songbook, and I’ve just done a swing album with Jools Holland, which is going to come out next year, so I want to go in that direction.”
Stewart added that he wants “to leave the rock ‘n’ roll stuff behind, for a while.”
“Everything has to come to an end sooner or later,” continued the performer, who urged that he’s in a “good place” with the pivot.
Stewart commented on singing with the Jools’ Band “It borders on rock ‘n’ roll anyway, it’s just not ‘Maggie May’ and ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?’”
Summer Tour
Stewart, who is due to embark on a 40-show worldwide tour on June 24, does not look like he has any plans to slow down.
The British icon has dedicated 50 years of his life to music and performing.
