A couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary was brutally stabbed to death along with an elderly family member on Sunday.
Couple’s 50th Wedding Anniversary Ends In a Nightmare
Authorities arrested a 41-year-old man, Christopher Ferguson, in connection with a triple homicide that shook the community of Newton, Massachusetts.
“Christopher Ferguson, a resident of Newton, has been charged with murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and burglary,” said Middlesex District Attorney, Marian Ryan.
The victims have been identified as Gilda D’Amore, 73, her husband Bruno D’Amore, 74, and Gilda’s mother, Lucia Arpino, 97, according to Ryan. Gilda and Bruno were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Gilda D’Amore’s autopsy revealed over 30 stab wounds and evidence of blunt-force trauma.
The victims’ church, Sacred Heart and Our Lady’s Collaborative, expressed their sorrow and offered condolences to the grieving family. “It is with a heavy heart that we share that the terrible tragedy that happened yesterday in Newton hit very close to home…impacting our faith community and our own family,” the church’s online remembrance read.
“Many in our faith community are grieving this great loss. We ask for your prayers for them, most especially for their three children and their five grandchildren.”
The Investigation Is Ongoing
A concerned friend of the couple, worried about their absence from their anniversary church service went to their home. The friend immediately contacted authorties after finding the bodies of Gilda, Bruno, and Lucia.
The investigation has revealed few clues about the motive behind the shocking crime. District Attorney Ryan stated as of now there is no connection between the suspect and victims, indicating it may have been a random act of violence.
Preliminary investigations uncovered signs of forced entry, broken glass, and missing basement window screens, suggesting the perpetrator gained access through these means.
Authorities were able to identify Christopher Ferguson as a suspect after canvassing the neighborhood. Surveillance footage captured a male individual walking in the area, about four-tenths of a mile from the victims’ home.
Several officers identified Ferguson in the video, leading to his arrest, and compelling evidence including a matching bloody footprint was found at the crime scene.
Additional charges of murder are expected to be filed against Ferguson.
The Community Is In Shock
The Newton community is in a state of shock following the triple homicide during the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary celebration and is mourning the loss of their neighbors and seeking solace in prayer.
Christopher Ferguson is currently awaiting his arraignment.
