The Prescott Police Department announced that Christina Pasqualetto, 62, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Pasqualetto had driven two hours on Sept. 20 from their home in Gilbert to their second residence in Prescott, where her estranged spouse was staying and had changed the locks, Prescott police said.
Prescott Police Department said in a press release that they responded to the home of Jon Pasqualetto, 80, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his wrist.
“The victim was able to knock her down, the gun came out of her hand, and he attempted to escape the house,” the department said.
“During that time the victim did strike the suspect with his hands and elbows to escape the situation,” police said of the struggle that left his wife badly bruised.
“The victim was ultimately able to escape and ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911,” police added.
Jon had suffered a gunshot wound to his wrist and was later flown to a Phoenix-area hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries.”
According to their investigation, the victim and his estranged wife Pasqualetto, were in the middle of a divorce and had been living separately for several months.
Prior to the incident, Jon had changed the locks at his residence and noticed that keys, among other items, had gone missing. He suspected Christina of taking them, which led to a confrontation on the night of the shooting.
Pasqualetto also faces a count each of forgery and theft after her estranged husband said she had stolen checks and forged a check about a week before for $10,000 and cashed it.
She allegedly admitted to this when talking to detectives, and officers claimed to find a deposit slip in her purse, matching the transaction.
