Former Senate staffer Tara Reade, who accused Joe Biden of sexual assault, has fled to Russia for her safety and requested asylum.
Tara Reade Flees To Russia For Safety
Tara Reade, who accused President Joe Biden of sexually assaulting her in 1993, is requesting Russian citizenship from Vladimir Putin due to concerns about her safety in the United States.
Reade worked as a staff assistant in Biden’s office from 1992 to 1993.
Tara Reade’s allegations against Biden, then a Senator, were discussed during an interview on Tucker Carlson’s show in December 2022.
During the show, Reade revealed details of the allegations against President Biden and the repercussions that derailed her possible political career.
Republican representatives Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene invited Reade to testify before Congress in March 2023.
Gaetz shared the news through a video on Twitter, raising awareness of Reade’s upcoming appearance.
After Reade posted on social media that she would testify under oath against Biden, Gaetz allegedly told her he feared for her physical safety in the U.S.
In early May, Reade took to social media, sharing a “cryptic message” indicating threats and holding the Bidens accountable for any harm that might befall her.
“I want to make something clear. If something happens to me, all roads lead to Joe Biden. Joe Biden and DNC political machine threats, bullying, and intimidation over the last three years will not work. I’m not suicidal.”
Reade Requests Asylum in Russia
Media reports, both in the US and internationally, stated Reade relocated to Russia due to continuous persecution in the United States.
She sought safety and formally requested Russian President Vladimir Putin grant her Russian citizenship. In her interviews with Russian media, Reade expressed her desire to testify about the Biden administration’s alleged misuse of the FBI and the DOB against American citizens.
Reade said she wants to find a safe haven in Russia, although she acknowledged the difficulty of her decision to move. Several media outlets attempted to discredit her by characterizing her relocation as a defection to Russia, insinuating her alignment with Russian political interests.
A Russian Influence Operation?
During a White House press briefing, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby was questioned about the possibility of Reade being part of a “Russian Influence Operation.”
Kirby responded he had not seen any evidence supporting such claims, but he reiterated the widely debunked notion of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
The fate of Reade’s testimony remains uncertain as the Republican-led House contemplates options for accommodating her from Russia.
“It is remarkable that Joe Biden raped me when I worked for him at the US Congress, and I’m supposed to be the fugitive.”
Whether she can testify remotely or provide a transcript through legal representation in the United States remains to be seen.
Biden’s comments regarding Reade’s claims have been few and far between. About one month following her allegations in 2020, Biden responded by saying sexual assault “never happened.” “While the details of these allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault are complicated, two things are not complicated,” Biden said in a statement, according to NPR.
“One is that women deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and when they step forward, they should be heard, not silenced. The second is that their stories should be subject to appropriate inquiry and scrutiny. Responsible news organizations should examine and evaluate the full and growing record of inconsistencies in her story, which has changed repeatedly in both small and big ways.”
