A man from Tennessee allegedly kidnapped and locked up his girlfriend in a vacant home, for at least two months.
Here’s What Happened
Police arrested a man, aged 30, after a two-day search for reportedly abducting his girlfriend and confining her in a locked closet within an abandoned residence.
The Dyersburg Police reported that at 1:30 p.m. on March 11 officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance on Schaffer Street. The woman reported to someone that she had just fled after being abducted.
Reportedly, the police found the 40-year-old victim “concealed beneath a newly constructed dwelling” and observed that she was significantly emaciated. She purportedly weighed less than 100 pounds and had lacerations on her face.
The victim, who requested anonymity, informed the police that she was romantically involved with Brenton Bell, but the relationship turned violent.
She said Bell confined her in a closet secured by a cable-based locking mechanism, and she was only permitted to exit the closet for a single hour each day, and that Bell gave her meager food rations and denied her access to a restroom.
Following an investigation, Dyersburg Police officers and detectives located the deserted property on Ayers Street and uncovered corroborating evidence, such as human excrement, which corresponded to the victim’s account of events.
The victim was taken to West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg and later released.
Police located and arrested Bell on March 15 at 6:45 p.m. on a charge of aggravated kidnapping.
