McDonald’s is a popular fast-food chain that is known for it’s Happy Meals and Big Mac.
The History of America’s Popular Fast-Food Chain
McDonald’s is a global fast-food chain that was founded in 1940 by Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California. Initially, the restaurant was called “McDonald’s Bar-B-Q,” and it served hot dogs and barbecue food items.
In 1948, the McDonald brothers rebranded their restaurant to focus on hamburgers, french fries, and milkshakes, and they introduced a highly efficient production system called the “Speedee Service System.”
This new system revolutionized the fast-food industry by allowing McDonald’s to serve high-quality food quickly and efficiently, with little waiting time for customers.
In 1954, Ray Kroc, a milkshake machine salesman, became involved with McDonald’s after he was impressed by the efficiency of their restaurant. Kroc saw the potential for expanding the business and eventually bought the company from the McDonald brothers in 1961.
The famous Golden Arches logo was first introduced in 1962, and is one of the most recognized logos in the world.
Under Kroc’s leadership, McDonald’s grew rapidly, expanding across the United States and eventually globally. The company introduced new menu items, such as the Big Mac and the Egg McMuffin, and developed new marketing strategies, including the famous “You Deserve a Break Today” campaign.
In 2016 documentary was released based on Ray Kroc called The Founder.
Today, McDonald’s operates in more than 100 countries and has over 38,000 restaurants worldwide, serves over 69 million people in 119 countries every day, making it one of the largest fast-food chains in the world.
While the company has faced various controversies over the years, such as criticisms of its food quality and concerns about its impact on public health.
In 2004 a documentary film called Super Size Me staring Morgan Spurlock created a film that chronicled him eating only McDonald’s for 30-days.
