A California woman and mother was decapitated in a sword attack outside her California residence on Friday.
Devastating Decapitation
Karino Castro is a young mother who was killed in a brutal beheading in a California Bay Area neighborhood. Castro, 27, is the mother of two girls, ages 7 and 1, and drove for DoorDash.
According to KFOR 4, the killing occurred at 11:50 a.m. Thursday, when Castro was attacked outside of her apartment. “Witnesses flagged down deputies to alert them of the ongoing sword attack, according to San Mateo County Sheriff’s Lt. Eamonn Allen. Allen said the violence stemmed from a domestic dispute between the suspect, 33-year-old Jose Rafael Solano Landaeta, and Castro, who was a mother of two.”
The attacker severed Castro’s head in the street in front of stunned witnesses in the city of San Carlos.
The suspect is identified as Castro’s 1-year-old daughter’s father.
According to Fox News, “The head was underneath the car, and she was laying in the back of the car — just severed,” neighbor Chapel Thorborne told local radio station KGO. “And they covered her up.”
The Suspect Is in Custody
Authorities have identified Castrino’s attacker as 33-year-old Jose Raphael Solano Landaeta, the father of Castro’s 1-year-old daughter. Sources confirmed an ongoing relationship between the two, although Castro had a restraining order against Landaeta.
Sources say there has been a history of domestic violence at the Castro’s address.
Landeata fleed the scene about two blocks away after the gruesome attack but soon returned to the scene unarmed. Deputies searched the area but did not find the attack weapon.
According to Castro’s family, Landeata goes by the name Rafa Solano, and confirmed he was a diagnosed schizophrenic and had a history of wild behavior depending on medications.
Landaeta was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on one count of suspicion of murder and without bail.
The Aftermath
After the incident, child protective services took custody of both children, their dog, and a cat who were inside the house. Authorities say the children did not witness the horrific incident.
Sources confirmed that the graphic nature of the crime was so horrific that sheriff deputies and neighbors who watched the scene unfold were issued counselors.
Marcus Castro, the father of Karina Castro told KRON 4, “I don’t feel he should continue breathing. I think the death penalty would be perfect for him.”
