Both Toyota and Honda companies have announced major recalls affecting a total of around 3.5 million vehicles in the United States.
Here’s What Owners Should Know
World-renowned car makers Toyota and Honda have issued recalls recently that will affect almost 4 million people in the US. Car owners should check the listings to see if their cars are under recall, or they can wait for the letters to come in the mail to take further action.
You can also go to the government website to look up your VIN to check if your car is in the most recent recall.
To find your VIN, look on the lower left of your car’s windshield for your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number. Your VIN is also located on your car’s registration card and may be shown on your insurance card.
Honda
More than 4.5 million Honda vehicles of various makes and models have been recalled following an issue with the fuel pump that could increase the risk of engines not starting or stalling while driving and increase the risk of a crash. The fuel pumps were made by auto parts maker Denso, informed sources said.
The recall affects 1,138,046 vehicles of 25 Honda models, including the N-Box, the Fit and the Step Wgn, and 204 NSX vehicles exported to Japan by the U.S. unit. They were made between June 2017 and September 2020.
Despite 422 cases of the defects being reported to Honda, there have been no accidents involving the problem.
The recall includes 2.54 million vehicles in the United States and comes after the automaker previously recalled 628,000 U.S. vehicles in 2021 and 136,000 in 2020 for the same issue.
Honda dealerships will replace the fuel pump module free of charge, and owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Feb. 5, 2024.
Honda issued recalls earlier this month over the same issue in China and Japan.
Toyota
On Wednesday, Toyota Motor (7203.T) said it will recall 1.12 million vehicles worldwide because a short circuit in a sensor could cause airbags not to deploy as designed.
The recall covers 2020 through 2022 model year vehicles, including various Avalon, Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Lexus ES250, ES300H, ES350, RX350 Highlander, and Sienna Hybrid vehicles, and could result in the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensors not working.
The sensors ensure airbags do not deploy if a small adult or child sits in the front seat. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the sensors. The automaker plans to begin notifying owners about the recall in February.
Toyota owners who think their car might be included in the recall can call 1-800-331-4331 for details. Owners of Lexus vehicles can call 1-800-255-3987 for more information.
