Truck Full of Cows Flips Over On Highway

A truck carrying dozens of dairy cows flipped on a Connecticut highway and only 30 of the 44 survived.

The cattle were heading from Maine to Ohio, and the accident happened on an Interstate 84 exit ramp in Newtown, early Thursday.

Eight of the cows were killed immediately, and six others had to be euthanized because of their injuries, state police and agriculture officials said.

The survivors got veterinary exams and were cleared to continue their journey.

First, their owner has to arrange transportation, the Hartford Courant reported.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not seriously injured, firefighters said.
